I’m Speaking at the Writing for Your Life Conference

For those of you who are writers, or for those of you who are interested in how and why I write about the things I write about, I would love for you to join me for my session of the upcoming Writing for Your Life Conference (online) on Thursday, May 12th at 10:00 a.m. eastern

I’m going to be giving a talk and then leading a discussion on “Writing about Hard Topics.” Here’s the description:

Disease, death, grief, racism, injustice, even faith—all of these are topics we are told to avoid at the dinner table. But writing well about topics that help us explore the deep human questions of meaning and purpose is also crucial for engagement with what it means to be human and live in community with others. How do we craft narratives about the hard stuff of life in a way that welcomes readers and encourages thoughtfulness? How do we make particular experiences into stories that resonate with a broad audience? In a world of endless light content, short attention spans, and ceaseless opportunities to be entertained, how do we write stories that draw readers in and help them think and grow? And how do we bring hope without becoming trite or sentimental?

The conference takes place May 9-13, 2022, and will also feature sessions with Barbara Brown Taylor, Kate Rademacher, Jennifer Grant, Xochitl Dixon, Glenys Nellist, and more, as well as various publishing industry executives and agents. Attendees can enjoy recordings of all sessions they register for until August 13, 2022.
