A Few of My Favorite Things: Week 9 | Pleasant Surprises in Podcasts

Last week, Peter asked us all to go around the table and list one “pleasant surprise” from our day. I talked about Ezra Klein’s interview with Nick Offerman.

Nick Offerman | Lessons on Living Well

Offerman is the lead character on the show Parks and Rec (which I’ve never watched, but now plan to enjoy). He is also an author, woodworker, and devotee of Wendell Berry. I loved their conversation. {Listen here}

Suzanne Simard | Forests Are Wired for Wisdom

In keeping with last week’s favorites, I also deeply appreciated Suzanne Simard’s conversation with Krista Tippett. She has me thinking about ecosystems and the interrelated nature of all of creation. And here came another pleasant surprise: I learned that salmon affect the growth of inland trees. When salmon are in decline, trees miles away suffer. You’ll have to listen to find out how this all works. {Listen here}

Bible Project Podcast | Paradigm Series

And now for something completely different, I am also really appreciating the Bible Project’s most recent series about what the Bible is and how we can understand it as a unified story that points to Jesus. For anyone who is curious about how these 66 books hold together and how the Bible came to be what it is, these conversations are a great resource. {Listen here}
