I used to say that I’m a writer who sometimes speaks. What I meant by that was that I didn’t feel super confident while speaking. I used very detailed notes (aka, a script). I felt more comfortable behind a podium than in front of a crowd. And it all felt a little out of control to me.
Over the years, I’ve grown to really love speaking in all settings, and I’ve learned how to trust the work of the Spirit as I prepare and offer those messages. And after two years of mostly gathering with people on Zoom, I am excited to be preparing for a number of in-person speaking opportunities for this upcoming school year.
My speaking schedule starts with an online conference, How to Write Dangerously, on September 12-16, 2022. I’ll be speaking about writing about hard topics. In October and November, I’ll be speaking at two different women’s retreats (one in CT and one in NC), and I’m working out the details of a visit to Yale Divinity School and a keynote address at a disability conference in Virginia. You can check out my speaking page about all of these opportunities and fill out my speaking request form if you want to start a conversation about having me come visit your group.
In every place, I will have a chance to share a message of belovedness and belonging, and to talk about participation in healing. What an honor and gift to me to be able to interact with fellow travelers as we respond to the invitation to be made well.
