Do our bodies use pain and illness to send signals to our hearts and minds?
I’ve started to believe they do, at least sometimes.
This summer, I offered a series of examples of ways we can bring prayer into aching body parts as a way of connecting our whole selves and inviting God’s presence into our whole selves. I’ve learned that sometimes my body gives me a signal that I’m experiencing emotional or spiritual distress that I haven’t acknowledged. My pulsing hamstring or pounding headache or queasy stomach sometimes communicates fear or stress or anger or hurt. And if I pay attention to those signals, I can bring those feelings to God and start a healing process.
I’ve pulled together the thoughts and questions that have helped me learn how to connect these parts of myself in a free pdf available on my website. I’d love to share these thoughts with you, and I’d love to hear from you how you connect mind, body, and spirit.
