For those of you who are new around here (and even for those of you who aren’t), I wanted to take a minute to introduce myself. Here are five things to know about me:
I’m a writer.
We just updated my professional bio in anticipation of my next book, To Be Made Well, coming out into the world in March. My bio used to say I write about “faith, family, disability, and privilege.” We changed it so now it says I write about, “personal, spiritual, and social healing.”
I can be accused of being too serious.
I often get lost in my head in a swirl of thoughts about politics and Jesus and culture and ethics. I remember one friend once asking at the end of an intense discussion over some hot cultural topic, “Do you always live in this place? Do you ever just talk about shoes?” Honestly, no. I never just talk about shoes. But I love having friends who do.
My feet are always cold.
Speaking of shoes, though, my feet are always cold. When I get ready for bed at night, even in the summer, I tuck my pj pants into my socks. I sometimes also tuck my shirt into my pants. And here in the dead of winter, I add a hoodie and an electric heating pad to the mix.
I spent my sophomore year at Princeton University living in a double-wide trailer.
Believe it or not, my roommates and I thought it was a tremendous upgrade from dormitory life. We had air conditioning, a kitchen, and two bathrooms. (Princeton had admitted too many students for the incoming freshmen class, so they needed 40 volunteers to live in 10 trailers for the year.)
I host a podcast called Love is Stronger than Fear.
And I love podcasting much more than I ever expected. It took me years to decide to start the show, and the fact that I get to talk to authors and activists and leaders about the healing work of love in our individual lives and society feels like a tremendous honor every time I do it.
What about you?!? How would you describe yourself? What do you like to talk about?
